A furnished house for rent in Parrita, Costa Rica β€” near Esterillos.

El Nido is a long-term rental in Guapinol, Chires de Parrita, Puntarenas, in Costa Rica's Central Pacific β€” about 20 minutes from the beaches of Bejuco and Playa Bandera, and 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio and JacΓ³. One bedroom, one bathroom, fully furnished, with air conditioning, washer, dishwasher and Starlink internet. $690 per month + utilities on a lease of 6 months or more, available from 1 December 2026. The house is also for sale at $295,000.

About the house

Small house, big view, and a forest you can eat from.

El Nido was built in 2021 on a hillside in St. Michael's Sustainable Community, a nature-focused neighbourhood in Chires de Parrita. The house is about 700 square feet (65 mΒ²) of living space, with a 200-square-foot deck (19 mΒ²) that looks out over the forest canopy to the Pacific.

Inside, it is one open room for living, dining and cooking under a high, vaulted wooden ceiling with a ceiling fan: a sofa, a solid-wood dining table, and a kitchen with wood cabinetry, a range and oven, and a dishwasher. The bedroom is its own room, with air conditioning, a wardrobe and shelving, a desk, and glass doors and windows on the trees. The bathroom is fully tiled, with a walk-in shower. There is a washing machine in the house.

It comes fully furnished β€” you arrive with a suitcase. Internet is Starlink, fast enough to work from. Water comes from the property's own private spring, with backup storage tanks.

Around the house is roughly an acre of land planted as a tropical food forest β€” mangoes, bananas and plantains, papayas, cacao, guanΓ‘bana, jackfruit, pineapples, lemons, avocados and turmeric β€” plus three tilapia tanks and a large greenhouse. Toucans, scarlet macaws, howler and white-faced monkeys and sloths are regular visitors.

It suits one person or a couple: someone working remotely, someone retired, someone who wants to grow food, or anyone who would rather hear howler monkeys than traffic. Selvatica, a yoga and wellness retreat, is within walking distance.

The deck

Coffee over the canopy, the Pacific on the horizon.

The deck runs along the front of the house and looks out over the treetops to the ocean. It is where the day starts and ends β€” breakfast with the birds, work on a laptop over Starlink, dinner while the bats come out to hunt insects.

Guests who stayed left a handwritten note: they loved watching the sunrise over the trees, the green parrots and the scarlet macaws β€” and β€œthe deck was a very nice place to eat dinner & watch the bats swooping to catch bugs.”

  • Starlink β€” work from outside

The land

An acre of fruit forest, fish tanks and a greenhouse.

The house sits on roughly an acre of tropical land that has been planted, terrace by terrace, as an established food forest. Bananas and plantains, mangoes, papayas, cacao, guanΓ‘bana, jackfruit, pineapples, lemons, avocados and turmeric β€” there is nearly always something ripe.

Below the house are three tilapia tanks and a large greenhouse for vegetables. Water comes from the property's own private spring, backed up by storage tanks.

And there is the wildlife: toucans, scarlet macaws, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and sloths all pass through.
